Say What Midgetman Is doing a video game review? Yes, yes he is. His probably first and last one. To top it all off it’s the Sequel to American McGee’s Alice.
Now where to begin, In short its probably not the best game out there gameplay standards. But for me that wasn’t the issue. Just the story, the art work, and just the sadistic retelling of Alice in wonderland is Fantastic. The Gothic style of the game is just… Yeah. No words describe how this game is messed up and deserves the credit for it’s style.
The story begins right where the First one ended. She left the Asylum and now lives in the orphanage, where she is going through mental treatment to forget her past. Not going to spoil much of the plot, but all I can say is she needs to stop following animals into weird places.
Gameplay mechanic wise, this game can be considered wishy washy. Sometimes just getting to were you need to be can be a challenge. I personally blame the jumping controls, it just feels to… loose? But the fighting mechanics to me are just wonderful. All the different enemies having weird ways to kill them. Just plain awesome for the fighting scenes and such.
Graphics wise it is an amazing game. Just the colors, textures, and just the look on Alice in different costumes in each area. Mind blowing cut-scenes and Fights with the monsters, yeah One hell of a trip. But They are not perfect, I noticed shadow errors once in a while. Not that big of deal in my opinion, and Games shouldn’t really be about the graphics anyways.
But in honesty the game is really about the story, and the first one was almost the same way. And if your a fan of the first one, this is a total awesome to add to your collection. And good news to the people that haven’t played the first one. Copies of the game comes with a code to download the first Alice. Which I am downloading for the Nostalgic factor.
So is it worth a buy? It’s really all up to you in taste. If you love Gothic styles, a different vibe for a story of a classic, and want something mentally messed up in your collection. Go for it in a heartbeat. If your into action guns and glory, don’t. You are not the type that would even come close to this game.
